I ask myself frequently, “what’s the one thing I could start or stop today to make myself better?” I’m always looking for that edge. It’s why I love to read and it’s why I’m here on Medium writing.

I just read, “Smarter, Faster, Better” by Charles Duhigg. The book has brought together some remarkable insights that you can apply to level up today.

Take Control

Practice making choices and exerting willpower.

The circle of control from Steven Covey’s 7 Habits comes to mind. Recognizing opportunities to make choices that provide a sense of autonomy and control is the first step toward exerting willpower and exercising motivation.

“Find a choice, almost any choice that allows you to exert control.” — Charles Duhigg

According to Psychology Today, this is how you begin to build your Locus of control which is your belief system regarding the causes of your own experiences. Are you a product of your own effort? Or are you a result of other things happening…
