One of the hardest questions I’ve ever been asked, “Who do you want to learn from?”

The person who asked me that question is incredibly wealthy and connected. There’s a certain weight behind what they asked. They might actually be able to make this happen.

My mind starts racing. What if my answer to the question is too easy? I want to respond in a way that maximizes their network. It’s in my nature to want to get the highest return possible. I don’t want this to be a wasted opportunity.

Unfortunately, the answer I gave was too easy. My response was greeted with a TED talk link and an assortment of articles.

What is the real lesson here? Why was I disappointed to get a couple of links? Is there a connection to relationships and learning?

Seek and you shall find

It’s all already out there. You don’t need permission to learn. You don’t need the connected person to ask the question to then connect you. So let’s ask the question again, “Who do you want to learn from?”

Got the list? Great, now go learn! The internet has broken down all of those barriers.
